After the Athletico Madrid game we had Racing at home, a side I fully expected to triumph over:

We didn't play well but 2 headers from Sand and a couple of Paloschi strikes ended in a comfortable win.

Then we had Celtic in the Champions League:

Again not a great performance but we now have 2 wins from 2 in that group and look pretty comfortable. We returned back to the league with a trip to Osasuna:

We had 27 shots they had 6 and some how it ended up 3-2! The first time we conceded 2 in a game, I was pretty annoyed but the important thing is we won.

Castellon at home provided no trouble, the game was over after 15 minutes!

Then we had a trip to Chelsea, were a win would see us PLD3 won 3 in our group and see us all but through:

So we are still yet to drop points this season

League:

In my CL Group I have PLD3 Won 3 so I am all but through in that one.
We got Ejido in the cup as well so we should progress.

And I have this guy lined up (Min Fee release of 15mil) to replace Luis Jimenez (who is not performing and his stats are going down).

I think I am the only one to complete on FM09, I know many people did 5 seasons on FM08.

Quite a few did it on FM2008 although i did post the challenge on nearly every site on the scene whereas this time its pretty much just been FM Style. Couldn't be bothered having to check loads of sites all the time.

Ash - are you still updating the table mate cos i don't have a clue where everyone is at??

Ha ha when time stops being my biggest enemy in life i will do a beast of a blog post and make you famous! (kidding aswell!)

It looks like you were the only one that did anything Jack but Ash is making a wee comeback so thats good to see. I knew it would fizzle out though. Its still ages till FM2010 so i'm sure it will make a comeback at some point.

So when I last left you we had PLD 7 W7 in the league and were going strong in Europe. I always thought my league form would dip but somehow it has not, and we now have PLD16 W16 in the league! Here are the results:

Elche (A) 3-1 [Marquinhos 2, Saivet]
Eijdo (A) 3-0 CUP [Paloschi, Aquino, Fazio]
Barcelona (H) 3-1 [Foti, Saivet 2]
Chelsea (H) CL 2-0 [Paloschi, Marquinhos]
Las Palmas (H) 2-0 [Marquinhos, Defour]
Eijdo (H) CUP 4-0 (7-0) [Aquino, Marquinhos (2), Foti]
Athletic (A) 2-1 [OG, Camacho]
Fiorentina (H) CL 1-1 [Foti] *
Betis (A) 4-1 [Paloschi 2, Saivet, OG]
Real Madrid (H) 2-0 [Camacho 2]
Celctic (A) CL 1-1 [Paloschi] *
Valencia (A) 2-0 [Marquinhos, Esparaza]
Getafe (H) 3-0 [Paloschi 3]
Recreativo (A) 4-1 [Paloschi 2, De la Red, Saivet]

*Was secured as group winners so played weak squads.

I have won every game except for 2 champs league draws were I played weakend reserve squads.

So the league defense looks pretty good right now:

I managed to get CSKA Moscow in the Champs League so I am very hopeful of progressing through. I have Sevilla in the Spanish cup 5th round and having already beaten them 6-1, 2-1 and 2-0 this season I hope to go through.

The big story was in transfers. I sold lots of the legends who got me to this stage:

Jimenez, Carioca, Aquino, Defour all went. They generated a decent amount of cash, I also sold Gael Kakuta.

Thanks to my scout ArmaggedonAsh mentioning him, I realised that his club were hugely under-achieving at the time and he was not being played much, lots of sub games. He also was "un-happy at treatment of team-mate". His min fee release was 80mil. A cheeky bid of 50 was negotiate to 55mil + various clauses, and a 110k per week contract was signed.

Guess who? Lionel Messi. Yeh, average player really.

I also got a regen called Ross Muir from Valencia who plays MC. Both him and Messi played their debuts against Recreativo. Messi got 2 assists, 7.8 rating and Muir got a 7.6 rating so I am very confident they will give us what we need.

So all is pretty good at the Anoeta in my 6th season in charge.

Small update, a Sand header gave us a 1-0 away win to Sevilla in the cup first leg. Not a great game but we deserved the away goal which puts us firmly in the driving seat for the return leg.

Wow thats an amazing run you are on now well done. Gettinfg Messi to pull on the mighty Real Sociedad shirt is brilliant (oh to be able to see that in real life *dreams*). CSKA Moscow are in deep trouble when they play you i think. The regen you got "Ross Muir" doesn't sound very Spanish is he English?? Anyhow great update and look forward to the next one.

Cool thats what i like to see. I have never signed a Scotsman for Real Sociedad and unless he is an amazing regen i never will. I remember YNWALFC signed Ian Black from Caley Thistle but i think he turned out to be well below par.

You know, I might actually give this a go. I know I have said this 2 times before, but it seems really fun. Once I get the game sorted out, I will hammer it out. Please read my post RE speed of the games responses, and that way I can get through the game easier and would convince me to stick it out. KIU Jack!

After the Recreativo game we had to travel to Sevilla for the first leg of the Spanish Cup 5th round. We also had some tough fixtures against Zaragoza and Villarreal coming up.

Sevilla (A) CUP 1-0 [Sand]
Zaragoza (H) 3-0 [Paloschi, OG, Foti]
Sevilla (H) CUP 1-0 [De la Red] 2-0 on aggregate.
Villarreal (A) 3-1 [De la Red 3]

We got drawn with bitter rivals Athletic in the Cup quarters.

Athletic (A) CUP 2-1 [Marquinhos, Fazio]
Deportivo (H) 5-0 [Messi 2, Saivet 2, Foti] *MESSI FIRST GOAL FOR CLUB!
Atheltic (H) CUP 2-0 [Messi, Saivet] 4-1 on agg.
Gimnasitc (A) 2-0 [Marquinohs, Messi]

So it looks very much like Messi has settled in, I am playing him at MC and he is brilliant.

I have Athletico Madrid in the cup semi final, with the first leg at home. I am hoping to get a good score so the away tie is not too hard. I have still yet to lose this season, with 2 draws and 32 wins from my 34 games. I have scored 93 goals, conceded just 15.

Jack it looks like you have built an incredible team now well done. 32 wins from 34 games is out of this world. I hope you can go on to win the Champions League cos i know thats the one you really want so will keep following with interest. I still think its funny that Messi plays for Real Sociedad ha ha!!

SOCIEDAD KNOCK HOLDERS OUT OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

Sociedad hosted holders Arsenal in the quarter finals having beaten CSKA Moscow 8-1 on aggregate. They lost 2-3 at the Emirates, leading 2-1 with 10 minutes left before having a DC sent off (and no subs left), forcing them to go 3 at the back and a Carlos Vela double gave the champs a lead.

Sociedad knew a victory would see them through but went 0-1 down early on before Marquinhos levelled. With 5 minutes left it was 1-1 and Arsenal lead 4-3 on aggregate. With literally 20 seconds left Wilson's long pass fell to Saivet who was one on one, rounded the keeper and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL! Saivet scores!

FT Sociedad 2 [Marquinhos 40, Saivet 93] Arsenal 1 [Adebayor 25]
Aggregate 4-4, Sociedad through on away goals.

Sociedad play FC Bayern in the semis, with Man Utd taking on Liverpool in the other.

The league is still rosy, no slip-ups and a 2-0 victory at the Nou Camp means the table at the top looks like this:

1. Sociedad PLD29 87pts

2. Real Madrid PLD30 71pts
3. Barca PLD30 68pts
4. Valencia PLD30 66pts

Can they do the treble?
