Leyton Orient - The rise of the O's!

With the recent release of Weegie's latest update, I have decided to take my local club, Leyton Orient, to the top. This won't be easy for me, but i'm sure it will be exciting. Another twist to this is that my real-life cousin is a goalkeeper for them, and is actually in the game at 16 years old. I am determined to develop him into a high standard player as my game goes on.

I have set a few aims for myself:
  • Take Leyton Orient from League One to the Premiership, and enjoy victory in the European Cup, as well as taking home the Premier League title.
  • Develop my cousin Jack Giddens into a decent player, as he currently has 0 CA and 0 PA therefore this task will be extremly difficult, maybe even impossible. However, if I can manage to reach the 'big time' then it may make it easier. (as well as the fact I will try to give him as much game time as possible).
  • To enjoy the game as much as possible!

So here it goes. My task shan't be easy, but heck, i'm gonna enjoy every minute of it!

LEAGUE ONE ROUNDUP 2009

Last Updated: 1st June 2009 (game time)

League one finishes, Moltisanti signs on until 2012, and Leeds dominate!

With the 2008/2009 season finished, our attention now turns to the Coca Cola League One, of which arguably had the most competitive season out of all of the professional tiers. Leeds started well, and ended even better. Leyton Orient, under Jacob Moltisanti's new 'revolution', started poorly, however made a play-off push towards the end of the season to fall short by four places. Southampton, with Pardew at the helm, shot back into th Championship in a traditional second place. While down the other end of the league, Exeter managed only 3 wins throughout the whole campaign, lumbering hem with an appalling 19 points total. But in truth, this article is targetted at one team, one manager, The O's.

A new season meant 'change' for the club which has been rooted in mid-table drought for the last few seasons. This called for Jacob Moltisanti, an Italian-American, to step up to the plate. His first management job, many fans were predicting the worst. Their fears were met with a disappointing transfer scheme, bringing in a mere two players, excluding an initial 3 month loan of Arsenal's Kerrea Gilbert, of which was extended to a season-long loan. The club also waved goodbye to both young goalkeeper Daniel Bygrave, who's departed caused little unrest, and club protege Jason Demetriou, of which made many fans yet again fear another struggling season was in the midst.

Moreover, the club started horrendously, and come January they were sitting in a poor 17th position. Moltisanti's job was on the line, and after signing no-one in the January window, his career as Leyton Orient manager was being re-considered.

Orient needed something that they could hope on. They were out of all possible cups, and all they could cling to was that Moltisanti could change thing... rapidly. It was February 1st 2009 when he told top scorer, James Scowcroft, to hold a players meeting on the lack of form. This was what changed their season. This one morale boosting incident. Pure genius from Moltisanti's prospective.

For the next half of the season, the club rallied together and managed to pull themselves from relegation fearful to play-off hopefuls. Yes, they did fall short of a promotion heave, but the true fact is that they finished on a high, and showed promise for next season.

Good signs for next season!

Another season over, another year in League One. However, Orient fans are finally pleased to say they have found the manager to take them onwards and upwards. Jacob Moltisanti rid a rocky roller coaster last season, taking the club we love from the bottom, until coming very close to a play-off spot. The man the fans were appalled to have announced as their new gaffer at the start of season, and the man the board were pleading to all that he had potential, has officially won the fans love. After the announcement of him signing a new contract, with the same wage, until 2012, the fans were overjoyed that 'their man' was staying put to guide them up the tiers.

Speaking on June 1st 2009, following the impressive season, Moltisanti seemed happy about his winning over of the fans.

JM: "They are not hard to please..." said Moltisanti, 32, laughing.

JM: "However, I feel victorious, ok... we didn't get promoted, but the spirit the lads showed towards the end of the season was absolutely pleasing. For me, as their boss, I was so proud for them. Now we can go on a long holiday and get a break from football. I will be going back to my homeland, Sicily (Italy)... i've heard Dubai is nice though?" states the Orient boss.

JM: "What more can I say? A happy way to end a decent season. Next campaign we will strive for better, and you never know, we may be a Championship act sooner than you can blink. I'm here until 2012 now, and if I can bring more success between this time, I will be satisfied, the board will be overjoyed, and the fans will love me. For now though, i've gotta shoot off... i'm flying later today!"

We also managed to catch up with joint club top scorer James Scowcroft.

JS: "A great finish to the season. I was injured for a large lump of our press for the top, so I suppose I can't take all the credit as Kyle (Wilson) had such a great debut season at the club. I think we all done such a terrific job, the players, the manager, everyone." said Scowcroft... when asked who he would regard as the 'joker' of the club, he replied in a funny manner.

JS: "Well, that award has to go to Smithy (Jimmy Smith). If anyone is going to pull a prank, it's him."

The next season is sure to be an exciteful one for Orient. Hopefully with a bit more action in the transfer market, the club can aim for promotion to the second tier of English Football, the Championship.

Squad (as of June 09)
League Table (as of June 09)
Transfer History (as of June 09)
Jack Giddens (as of June 09)

Overall a good season. Not much progress from Giddens, but he is still only very young and has a long career ahead of him. I gave him a bit of first team football, he coped pretty well. More to come from him i'm sure. Aiming for promotion next year.

Comments on update are appreciated!
